The Editor’s View: ‘Why We Love Atlanta’ Issue

In 2017, the City of Atlanta collected $74 million in hotel/motel taxes from an estimated 53 million visitors who stayed in its more than 800 places of lodging. It’s no secret that Atlanta is a hot destination. Part of it is in the city’s DNA; Georgia’s capital is the mecca of the Civil Rights movement – a moniker that will always distinguish it. The rest, however, revolves around its budding distinction as both an international draw and southern destination not too far south. The warm mild weather, proximity to the coast, laid back living, and city feel with a bit of space … It’s why so many of us have transplanted here and determined it an ideal place to settle and why staycationing in our “hometown” is always a good idea. We do this issue each year simply because there’s so much to love about Atlanta.
